Modern Charm

2022

Objective Entrusted to bring this two-storey interwar Federation bungalow back to life, the objective was to restore its charm while infusing a fresh coastal feel.

Outcome The design features a base of white walls, oak flooring, and natural materials. The kitchen was doubled in size and contemporised with a monochrome scheme, featuring a fluted timber island base topped with sleek white marble. To maximise storage, floor-to-ceiling black joinery was added, with pocket doors opening to reveal a hidden bar.

The interior was a jigsaw that was streamlined by reprogramming the rear, switching the living room into the dining area. New floor-to-ceiling windows now flood the rear with light, creating a bright space for the family.

Inspired by the owner’s travels to the far north coast of NSW, the formal living is decorated with marine blue cushions, adding pop to the space. Reinstated with heritage-inspired mouldings, the traditional fireplace is a cosy corner for the family to retreat.

The luxurious appearance of natural marble is coupled with the easy care and durability of engineered stone in all of the wet areas.

Accents of brass and a statement pendant add a touch of luxe to the powder room. Part of the extended footprint on the upper level, the main bathroom is a calm wet area, the classic freestanding bathtub paired with contemporary tapware. Veined honeycomb hexagon tiles run across the floor and up the walls, cradling the room in serenity.
