The property was transformed into a home suitable for a growing family while preserving its historic beauty.

Design cues were taken from traditional North American coastal architecture.

It’s hard to believe that this magnificent 1800s Grand Victorian mansion in Mosman was once three messy sub-divided apartments. The clients were smitten from the very first time they saw it, mesmerised by its grandeur and decorative elements. Design cues were taken from traditional North American coastal architecture—a style the clients were enamoured with.

The approach involved imbuing the vast interiors with comfort and warmth by adding textural mouldings and new wainscoting. Existing period features were treated tenderly, preserving the original leadlight windows and stone fireplaces while reinvigorating the renovated spaces with luxurious materials and clustered pendants to fill the soaring 3m high ceilings.

A casual new side entrance leads the family through the mudroom and adjoining laundry, while the reimagined foyer offers a breathtaking welcome for visitors attending the homeowner’s regular parties and events.

The large, sun-soaked kitchen with a butler’s pantry and breakfast table is a family dream, providing ample space for everyone to come together in the heart of the home. Shaker-style joinery is complemented by smooth Calacatta stone.

The footprint of the ground floor was reconfigured to better support open-plan living and enhance the connection between the gorgeous kitchen and the spacious dining area, featuring a handcrafted timber table and a 'tiled rug' for easy clean-ups.

Setting the scene for impressive hosting is a 5m custom table with seating for 14 and a bank of steel-framed doors that open onto the terrace, perfect for alfresco dining under the inky winter skies or glorious Sydney sunshine.
